Guest editor: Aleksandar Kovacevic

The way we travel has changed in recent times very significantly to what we have been used to before. We are global citizen now, connected with via smartphone and internet to the entire world. Based on current travel data, we look on what’s going on at airports within a year.

About 8,800 Check-Ins Every Second

Most of the air carriers have jumped right into the digitalization, creating apps to make it easier for passengers to book their travel, monitor or change them on their mobile phone, and make processes, such as check-ins for example, much easier. No need to print out a ticket anymore: the details are easily accessible with just a couple clicks on your phone. Looking at the current data, we see that almost 360 million check-ins are made monthly! Without modern technology, this number of travellers would make air travel collapse the way we are used to it. More interesting facts on air travel and what kind of data madness lies behind it shows this infographic from Horizn.
