The weather outside may be frightful, but that has never stopped us from getting out into the great outdoors and experiencing the amazing scenery that Great Britain has to offer. At this time of year, you may not be sunning yourself on the beach or relaxing by the pool with the current weather predictions, but this is the perfect setting for an adventure off the beaten track. Whether you’re a mountain biker, an off-road driver or a hiker, here are some essential pieces of kit that you should not leave the house without.
Dress Appropriately
Let’s start with the basics, shall we? We all know that the British weather is nothing if not unpredictable, but it seems like a pretty safe bet that we will be facing more snow, rain, and high winds. With that in mind, you should think about making sure that your wardrobe will be up to the job. Invest in a decent waterproof jacket that will keep you warm, proper walking boots if you are going to be clambering over hills and through the woods, and make sure that you bring a change of clothes with you just in case things get slippery on the trail. Taking a reusable water container and a thermos with a hot drink is also a very good idea.
Make Sure Your Car is Ready for the Challenge
We put an awful lot of faith in our cars when we go off road, and it is worth noting that this is only an activity that you should engage in if you are confident that your vehicle is up to the challenge. However, even if you have complete faith in your car to get up slopes and across stretches of water, you still need to make sure you have the right gear with you to get out of any tight spots. Needless to say, everyone should have an emergency kit with them that includes the basics: a spare tire, a road flare, blankets, a first aid kit and so on. But if you are going off-road, then you should think about adding winches to your list. Super Power Winch has a range of different options available to suit your needs, and they have been helping off-roaders as well as the commercial vehicle industry since 1989.
Put Safety First When it Comes to Cycling
There is nothing quite like taking your mountain bike into the great outdoors and pitting yourself against the elements. British cycling is finally getting back to normal in 2022 with the National Road Series back in full swing. But when you are off the grid and pushing yourself to the limit, you need to make sure that you have what you need to patch your bike and yourself up if you need to. Safety equipment such as a helmet, pads, gloves and sunglasses or goggles should be a priority. You should take a basic first aid kit with you, and you should have a repair kit in case of a puncture. Most importantly of all, you should make sure that your mobile phone is with you and that it is fully charged before you set out. If you are heading out by yourself, then tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back. This point goes for all of three activities that we have mentioned.
