A PUB landlord has divided opinion after posting a brutal job advert telling “Darrens and Debbies” they needn’t bother applying for the job.

Edd Hilton, owner of Sanddancer South Shields in South Tyneside, is looking for a new assistant manager – but the wording in his appeal is less than conventional.

The post braces those who may be offended to read “with caution” before launching into a rant about the unprofessionalism of some workers.

It reads: “To jump on board with us, we don’t want Karen’s or Darren’s, so please no wet wipes, or Debbie downers.

“I’ve heard it all before that you’re rude, you’re unprofessional, that we’re the problem, you’re childish blah blah, jump on your phone and dial 0121-go-do-one as you’re not what I’m looking for!”

It invites those with “no coke, crack habit or drink problem” to go on and apply as long as they also don’t want to use the bar “to peddle their drugs”.

Anyone with “mould under their finger nails” is out, but a “potential superstar” who is fully committed, wanting to “kick arse” is in.

Potential applicants were told that the role would involve a 40-hour contract, and “could be 20-30% above minimum wage”, depending on work history.

It signed off with the message: “If you’re whingy, dull and find this offensive, move on as we want to put the fun back into work.”

In the comment section, some readers appeared to take offence to the brashness of the post, with one person writing: “This is a disgraceful advertisement. Absolutely disgraceful.”

Another person was hardly amused and said they’d never be so tactless during their long-running time in the industry.

They said: “After 31 years running my own pubs and in big places like Mayfair London, I would never advertise a position like this.

“But I’m guessing you want to close the business down so well done. After reading your advert I would certainly not be visiting you.”

Others praised the unconventional approach, with one person sharing they think the world’s got a bit soft.

The Facebook user said: “This is great, straight to the point.

“We live in an age where most are afraid to offend anyone, you just want someone to work with you to achieve the goals.”

Edd told The Mirror the point was to stand out, after copying and pasting the advert from another business.

He said: “We have tried conventional platforms and websites for jobs with he same mundane ads of hours, duties, salaries and we are not generating interest as there are hundreds of similar roles available in the local area. The same for chefs and kitchen staff.

“The original ad creator was probably in the same position as a lot of hospitality staff and management and sick of wasting time on interviewees that turn up not wanting to work nights, or weekends.”

He accepted the ad “wasn’t for everyone” but not just anyone can understand the challenges of working in hospitality.

He added: “It was done light hearted, nothing serious, and to get the message out to a wider audience that we were looking for our next little superstar.”
