I’m a landlord – I was slammed for DOUBLING tenant’s rent despite her being a mum with 2 jobs but I need to make money

A GREEDY landlord has come under fire for DOUBLING the rent of a mum already working two jobs to survive.

Raul Bolufe, from Miami, has been slammed for threatening to evict his tenant if she didn’t increase her payments from $1,100 to $2,500 a month.

The unaffordable price jump sparked outrage both with the working mum and people watching the scene unfold on TikTok.

The real estate agent introduced himself and then said: “You’re currently rented for $1,100 and that house is in Miami, it’s a pretty low price in today’s market.

“I wanted to see if you wanted to stay there”, to which the tenant replied: “Yeh I was planning on staying there.”

She added: “I don’t want to move, I have been here for over 10 years.”

Raul explained: “I would want you to stay but we’d have to raise it a little bit.

“There’s houses in that area for $2.500, we could take the lower end of $2,000 to $2,200.”

The furious tenant hit back: “Are you kidding me? That has to be a joke, $2,500, that’s over double my current rent.

“I can’t afford that s***, I have kids and I’m already working two jobs as it is.

“Where do you want me to go now? I’m gonna burn the house down at this point so nobody gets anything.

“I should call the cops on you.”

The landlord calmly replied: “If you don’t want to stay there for that price I’m going to have to put a 30 day notice – you could leave peacefully on time.

“I definitely can’t make it work at that current rent amount.”

In retaliation, the hard working mum explained: “I’m calling my brothers and I dare you to ty and pull up and give us the eviction notice, this is ridiculous.

“I’m not paying over double my rent.”

But the stubborn landlord confirmed he was still going to double the rent and put up a 30 day notice.

“This s*** is ridiculous and you’re a con artist”, the furious tenant added.

In a third video posted, Raul follows through on his promise and turns up at the house.

However, the disgusted resident refused to show up, instead she told him over the phone: “Sir I literally don’t care what you think, you can try to evict me if you want, I’m not leaving, good luck.

“Oh, and I changed the locks too by the way, so don’t even try to put an eviction notice on my door or else.”

Raul concluded by saying he has no choice but to return with the sheriff.

People left horrified comments on the videos, claiming the landlord’s actions were most likely illegal.

One shocked user wrote: “I’ve been a landlord and I never increased rent more than 13 per cent to break even on costs. I never made it a profit motive. This is parasitic.”

“The man has a moral compass of a Disney villain”, said another outraged viewer.

Somebody else commented: “That’s so inhumane.”

“He’s joking right? 100 per cent increase is criminal” agreed a fourth.

This comes as another landlord was slated on social media for shamelessly demanding a 20 percent tip from his tenants when they pay rent.

Kevin and Matthew, who dub themselves the Property Prince and the Flippin Landlord Ninja, encouraged fellow letters to cash in further on their tenants.

In a video on TikTok, the pair acted out an exchange in an attempt to justify their reasoning for the hefty charge.

They said: “So you’ll tip a barista who pours overpriced coffee into a cup, but not the guy whos on call 24/7 to make sure you have a safe home?

“You’ll tip an extra 25 per cent for somebody to carry you a basket of chicken wings, but you won’t tip someone who responds for after hours emergency calls?

“Well, I guess when its time for your lease renewal I’m gonna make sure gratuity is included in your rent.”

The post on their account, Two Guys Take on Real Estate, sparked uproar in the comment section.

One person wrote: “Gratuity for a landlord doing his legal obligation is frankly absurd and likely illegal.”

Another said: “Why should I tip you when I’m already paying for agreed services?”

“Gonna tell my landlord he has to tip me 50 per cent for keeping his property safe and secured as bodyguard work is not free and expected,” a third joked.
