Queen's Speech time: What time is Queen's speech? What we can expect from Queen tomorrow

[ad_1]

The pomp and pageantry of the State Opening of Parliament is extravagant – even by British standards. The elaborate event includes a grand carriage procession, a particularly heavy crown, and official uniforms which have cost the British taxpayer almost £12,000 in 2019. The annual opening of Parliament will also see the Queen read out a speech the government has written on her behalf, outlining their plans for the year ahead.

What time is the Queen’s Speech tomorrow?

The State Opening of Parliament – also known as the Queen’s Speech – is on Monday, October 14.

The formal event marks the formal start of the parliamentary year and sets out the government’s agenda for the next session of Parliament, setting out proposed policies and laws.

You can watch the Queen’s Speech 2019 on Parliament TV from 11.15am.

Then from three hours after the ceremony, you can read the Queen’s Speech in Lords Hansard.

What will the Queen say in the Queen’s Speech?

Measures to help the UK prosper after Brexit are to be set out in the Queen’s Speech, the government has said.

Plans to end the free movement of EU citizens into the UK and provide faster access to medicines will be unveiled.

Ministers say a Brexit deal is a “priority” and they hope one can be passed through Parliament “at pace”.

But the UK and EU are still involved in talks ahead of a key summit – with a Downing Street source saying they were “a long way from a final deal”.

Plans to update the Mental Health Act and for an investigations body to improve patient safety will be unveiled, according to newspaper reports.

There could also be a new “police covenant” – a promise recognising the service and sacrifice of officers – to be enshrined in law.

The government says it is prioritising enhanced devolution, with more metropolitan mayors, greater powers for existing mayors and more control locally of how money is spent or prioritised.

Legislation will likely follow a white paper – consultation document – laying out the PM’s intentions.
