This image, by the Serbian artist Marina Abramović, is from the series Places of Power, which consists of works made on trips to Brazil, beginning in 2012, where the artists sought out ‘people and places of power’. Traversing more than 3,000 miles, Abramović met and interacted with shamans, members of religious sects, herbalists and a psychic surgeon. Artist Portrait with a Candle remains as a physical record of the artist’s spiritual journey through Brazil
