Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard, 48, has been close friends with Chris Kamara, 65, for more than 10 years after working together on several projects including Ninja Warrior UK, Goals on Sunday, and their Proper Football podcast.

In a new interview, Ben credited his pal for teaching him “about life”.

Recalling their first meeting, the Tipping Point presenter recalled: “I met him for the first time in 2010 at the World Cup, we were sitting next to each other and we had a really good laugh.

“I started working with him [on Goals on Sunday] then and it has just been a joy and a laugh ever since.

“The scrapes he has got me into, the opportunities we have had.

Chris recently received an MBE for his services to football, anti-racism and charity.

He was given the honour by King Charles and will formally receive it at Windsor Castle this week.

In April last year, Chris left Sky Sports after a broadcast career spanning more than two decades.

His departure came just one month after he confirmed he is suffering from apraxia of speech.

“[It] could be permanent for the rest of my life, but I am a lot better off than loads and loads of people.”

In an earlier interview on Good Morning Britain, Kammy explained that he doesn’t know what he sounds like when he speaks.

He continued: “I’m not really sure about how it comes out… we take for granted that when we think and coming through our speech it’s comfortable, it’s easy, it’s natural.

“My apraxia, because it varies in different people, when it’s bad it stops those signals from the brain going to that mouth; it slows it down.

“At times it slurs the words as well. So, people are looking and thinking, ‘Is he alright? Is he drunk?’”

He also confirmed that he is working with a therapist and speech therapist to try and improve his condition.
