Starmer ramps up pressure on Netanyahu by threatening ‘further action’ if Israel does not abandon plan to take over Gaza

SIR Keir Starmer last night threatened “further concrete action” if Israel does not abandon its “egregious” plan to take over Gaza.

In a scathing joint statement with French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian PM Mark Carney, the PM escalated pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Israeli PM was warned that unless an abundance of aid is let into Gaza and plans to occupy the strip are dropped, Britain, Canada, and France “will not hesitate to take further action, including targeted sanctions”.

The three leaders said: “We will not stand by while the Netanyahu Government pursues these egregious actions.

“If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response.

“Israel must halt settlements which are illegal and undermine the viability of a Palestinian state and the security of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

On Monday nine UN trucks carrying aid were given clearance by Israeli authorities to enter Gaza, where international organisations have warned a famine is imminent.

It’s the first time in 11 weeks supplies have been allowed into the strip.

Sir Keir called Netanyahu’s decision to greenlight limited and “basic” food into the coastal enclave as “wholly inadequate”.

He called the humanitarian crisis “intolerable”, adding “we cannot accept images of hunger, mass hunger”
