Zara McDermott says she and boyfriend Sam Thompson are stronger than ever after she apologised for cheating on him.
The former Love Island star briefly split with Sam after she admitted cheating in a tearful showdown that was seen on Made In Chelsea.
Zara, 24, who recently quit the London-based reality show because it was “hard on the soul”, has admitted she “messed up” by being unfaithful to Sam, 28.
And she says despite what people might think, their relationship is “solid”.
She told New magazine: “The biggest thing I’ve learnt is that sometimes you have to be vulnerable and hold your hands up and own your mistakes. You have to say, ‘I messed up and I’m incredibly sorry’.
“So many people reached out to me and said, ‘I’ve made a similar mistake, please don’t beat yourself up. Forgive yourself’. And that’s the key thing to being able to move on.”
Zara said that she and Sam have worked through their problems and are able to trust each other by putting the past behind them.
She said: “We’ve ridden through everything, come out so strong and with no issues. Neither of us have trust issues. We’re so strong and solid. A lot of people won’t be able to believe that and will think I’m just saying it, but I’m the one who has to live it. We wouldn’t be together if we didn’t make each other so happy.”
Zara had been starring on Made In Chelsea for two years before she threw in the towel.
She rose to fame on Love Island in 2018 and was introduced to her second reality show as Sam’s girlfriend.
Sam, who has been on the show since 2013, will continue to appear without her.
Explaining why she was leaving, Zara, who has been making a documentary about revenge porn, told The Sun’s TV magazine : “I’ve left. Sam’s still in.
“I would like to do more documentaries. I’m bursting with ideas. I think I surprised myself — I was obviously nervous, a year ago. I enjoyed that gratification of helping people.
“That’s my goal for this year and next year. No more reality TV, it’s hard on the soul.”
