Xbox Series X console production going as fast as it can, promises Phil Spencer

With the Xbox Series X sold out, Phil Spencer has contacted the CEO of AMD to try and speed up console production.

Recent reports claim that more PlayStation 5 stock will be arriving soon, but there has been no word on the Xbox Series X/S console.

While he didn’t provide any indication of when new stock will be available, Xbox head Phil Spencer has assured that production is going as fast as it can.

During an end of year Xbox podcast with director of programming Larry Hryb, Spencer admits that he even phoned Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, which makes the processors for the Xbox consoles, to ask if it was possible to speed up production.

‘I get some people of, ‘Why didn’t you build more? Why didn’t you start earlier? Why didn’t you ship them earlier?’ I mean all of those things. It is really just down to physics and engineering,’ he explained.

‘We’re not holding them back. We’re building them as fast as we can. We have all of the assembly lines going. I was on the phone last week with Lisa Su at AMD, ‘How do we get more? How do we get more?’’

Spencer also mentions how there is a short supply of hardware in general, including the PS5.

‘Obviously, PlayStation 5’s in very tight supply. When you look at the graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA, I mean there’s just a lot of interesting gaming right now. Console sales are just a sign of that. Game sales are a sign of that. Hardware is in short supply, but we’re working as hard as we can.

‘The teams are incredibly dedicated. I appreciate people’s patience as we work to build more.’

Aside from the limited stock at launch, scalpers managing to acquire multiple Xbox Series X/S consoles certainly didn’t help.

By reselling consoles via eBay at inflated prices, it’s believed that scalpers have made over £61 million through sales of the Xbox consoles, the PS5, and PC graphics cards.
