Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has lavished praise on Bukayo Saka after the winger’s impressive campaign for the Gunners.

The 19-year-old was Arsenal’s standout performer during an otherwise disappointing season for Mikal Arteta’s side, who finished eighth in the Premier League.

Saka’s displays earned him a place in England’s European Championships squad and the winger scored on his debut for the Three Lions last week during a 1-0 win against Austria.

Henry briefly managed Saka during his time as Arsenal’s U18s boss and he admits he’s been amazed to see the winger’s dedication and enthusiasm in the first team.

‘You could see that he wanted to run at people, he wanted the ball, he was brave on the ball,’ Henry told Goal.

‘It was too early to tell and when I saw him breaking into the first team because it was after I left.

‘I was like: Wow, it’s amazing. I always liked the attitude of the kid, his commitment. And what I like about him is he cares about his club, and he will do whatever to make sure that the team wins.’

Henry rejoined Belgium’s national set-up last month after a stint at Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer.

The Frenchman was linked with jobs at Derby and Bournemouth but he accepted an offer to work under Roberto Martinez for a second time.

Henry has also thrown his weight behind a bid from Spotify owner Daniel Ek to buy the Gunners from the Kroenke family.
