Woman turns her basement into incredible cocktail bar

When it came to making her house her home, Libby Freeman, from Brighton, wasn’t all that keen on the idea of a conventional living room and didn’t want a space that centred around watching the telly.

Instead, she dreamed of a far more glamorous ‘living space with a twist’ to hang out in, a space where she could play music and create something a little bit different.

After many hours of hard work, the 39-year-old jewellery designer was able to transform her gloomy basement into a stylish cocktail bar you’d pay good money to visit, complete with a bookcase as a secret door.

Describing the décor theme as “tropical 70’s chic”, Libby said: “The basement was the selling point of the house. I saw it and immediately thought I could do something really cool with that.

“I wanted a living space with a twist. I call it the secret underground cocktail bar.”

The basement is now the perfect place to hang out.

Work cost £9,000 overall, with Libby doing much of the decorating herself.

Having already done a fair bit of decorating in the past, Libby was able to do the majority of decorating by herself, aside from the plastering, electrics, radiator installation and the making of the bookcase entrance.

All in all, the ambitious project set Libby back £9,000, a sum which included all of the furniture plus the secret door.

The finished result is truly extraordinary, with Libby having crafted the perfect at-home venue for cocktails with friends.

Last year, a married couple, also from Brighton, built themselves a trendy home bar for just £45 after discovering a secret room in their home.

Toby and Sarah King, who discovered the space while renovating their dining room, were able to complete the impressive project on the cheap by mainly using materials they already had at home, finishing off their discount masterpiece with bargain buys from Facebook marketplace.
