A woman has given her bathroom a new lease of life by changing one simple component.

Amy Stanyer-Jones made it her mission to redecorate the room and decided the tired-looking shower screen needed a modern update.

The 24-year-old originally intended to buy a black-framed screen – but couldn’t find one within her budget.

So the graphic designer – from Prestatyn in North Wales – decided to get creative and make one herself, by upcycling her old one.

Amy purchased a roll of electrical tape for £1, a £1.50 paintbrush and a pot of £6 metal paint – so spent less than £9 in total on supplies for her makeover.

Firstly, she thoroughly cleaned the shower screen and dried it off with a towel.

Then, she used electrical tape to create horizontal and vertical lines on the glass, before painting the edges with black metal paint.

Amy posted her efforts on Facebook and was flooded with praise.

‘That looks absolutely amazing. Crazy what paint can do,’ one person replied.

Another commented: ‘Little oasis. It’s gorgeous.’

Amy adds that she’s thrilled with her handiwork.

She told Jam Press: ‘I’m very happy with the results, it’s been two months since upcycling my shower screen and it still looks like new.

‘I have lots of materials left over too which is a bonus if it ever needs touching up.’

For anyone thinking of giving it a go, she says: ‘Make sure you measure the tape for accuracy and use the correct paint suitable for metal and water.’

But Amy isn’t the only one who has been busy with DIY projects.

One woman has created a walk-in wardrobe and bedroom space for £1,000.

What’s more, a couple have transformed their 1930s three-bed, into a five-bedroom home – adding £200k to the value of the property.
