Will McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC and Subway be open during the third lockdown in England?

Which fast food chains will be staying open in lockdown?

England has been plunged into a third lockdown, as the country struggles to contain surging coronavirus cases caused by the new variant of Covid-19.

The restrictions mean that non-essential shops are once again shut, while pubs and restaurants will only be able to offer a takeaway, drive-thru or delivery service.

The first lockdown in March saw many of the high street’s fast food giants – including McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC and Subway – shut up shop completely, although they stayed open during the second, four-week lockdown in November.

What will they be doing this time around?

McDonald’s has confirmed that this time they will be closed for takeaway customers, although will remain open for drive-thru and delivery.

A message on their website reads: ‘Following the government announcements, we are pleased to remain open, but with a few changes.

‘We know this is a really difficult time for everyone and we really appreciate your patience and kindness, both with our crew and online.’

‘Click & Serve through the My McDonald’s App will be available at our Drive Thru restaurants.

‘Dine-in and Walk-in takeaway service will be temporarily closed in all restaurants from 11 p.m. tonight (5th January) while we review and verify any additional enhanced safety measures for these services.

‘With smaller teams and social distancing in the kitchen it will take longer to serve you.’
