Will McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC and Subway be open during the second lockdown in England?

Which fast food chains will be staying open in lockdown?

England is heading back into a second lockdown from Thursday, as the country struggles to contain the second wave of coronavirus that has led to a surge in cases.

As of Thursday many non-essential shops will close for four weeks – while pubs and restaurants will only be able to offer a takeaway or delivery service.

The last lockdown in March saw many of the high street’s fast food giants – including McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC and Subway – shut up shop completely, but will they be staying open this time?

While they shut all their branches during the first lockdown in March, McDonald’s has confirmed that this time they will be remaining open for drive-thru, takeaway and delivery orders.

A McDonald’s spokesperson explained: ‘Following [the] announcement of a new four week lockdown in England, we have confirmed that our Drive-Thru, takeaway and delivery services can remain open. Our dine-in areas will be closed during this period starting on November 5.

‘We will continue to follow the guidance and regulations as set out by public health and government authorities and will confirm any changes to our services to our employees first and then our customers.’

The chain is also offering a 30% discount on main menu items at the majority of its branches across the country, which runs until November 15.
