Lili Estefan has broken her silence on her shocking divorce from husband Lorenzo Luaces in the new Red Table Talk: The Estefans episode, and recalls how everything ‘went crazy in seconds’.

The El Gordo y la Flaca presenter stars in Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk spin-off, The Estefans, with her music icon aunt Gloria Estefan and cousin Emily Estefan, following in the footsteps of Jada Pinkett Smith’s main show.

In the first episode, Lili sits down at the red table to publicly discuss her painful divorce from the Cuban businessman for the first time.

The couple, much loved in the Latinx culture, announced they had separated in 2018 after 25 years of marriage. They share daughter Lina and son Lorenzo Jr.

Why did Lili Estefan and Lorenzo Luaces get divorced?

Lili, 53, went into detail about Lorenzo’s affair which dominated news headlines.

In the episode, the TV presenter revealed: ‘When I find out that the paparazzi had caught him with another woman and the pictures were taken to my job, to my colleagues, to the producers of my show. To Univision, my second home for 30 years, I’m going, how come I don’t know anything?

‘And I was flipping out… So imagine, right from the beginning, I felt so humiliated privately and then publicly.’

The TV host added: ‘I’ve been loyal to that man for every moment — he’s going through hell and back — and you’re there. You support. You build. You love. And then at the end, why did they eliminate [my] position as a wife. I didn’t get a raise. They fired me.

‘You can break my heart, but you cannot take my soul.’

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about why she chose now to speak out about the devastating split, Lili explained: ‘First of all, time heals. I’m able to feel comfortable with the whole situation because it was really hard. For a long time I couldn’t talk about it with the perspective that I have right now.

‘The main thing is the perfect platform because I had a daily show. I do entertainment and I’ve been doing it for 22 years. It’s my second home but for some reason, I wouldn’t have felt comfortable talking about it [there] because it’s a different dynamic.

‘It wasn’t the right time or space to do it. There’s something about the intimate discussion… you get to the table and it’s like truth serum.’

She continued: ‘When you get divorced, you have no other experience like this. It’s hard to understand.

‘Mine was very public and the story for me is, “What the heck, you had a perfect family”, it just went crazy in seconds.’

Her cousin Emily weighed in: ‘You’re an amazing person and that’s why so many women are going to learn from you and what you went through.

‘You may be able to prevent people from getting into certain situations.’

Red Table Talk: The Estefans premieres on Wednesday October 7 at 5pm on Facebook Watch.
