THE White House in Washington DC was put on lock-down earlier today due to an “airspace violation,” according to reports.
US government fighter jets were thought to have been brought in to intervene, but Capitol has since given the all-clear.
Reports from Twitter suggested that an unauthorised aeroplane may have entered airspace above President, Donald Trump’s residence.
Staff were briefly asked to leave but have since been let back in.
One journalist tweeted that Capitol Police had said communication was lost with an aircraft, forcing precautionary evacuations of some surrounding areas.
Some reports also suggested other federal buildings were locked down.
Journalist, David Martosko tweeted: “I just tried to enter the White House. Agents have everything locked down, and one tells me the situation is “shelter-in-place.”
“Another said an “emergency” caused the shutdown just minutes ago.
“Unclear what’s going on.”
He then added: “The White House has kicked out all of the construction workers who have been working on the fence replacement on the north side.
“One just told me: ‘They said ‘everybody get out.’ Just like that.”
