PLENTY of high street shops are still open – here’s the full list. 

Millions of Brits are living in Tier 4 areas which means non-essential retail must close.

Halfords is allowed to stay open during England’s coronavirus lockdown

Those in Tier 1, 2 and 3 are able to visit shops and there are no restrictions on what can and can’t open.

Some retailers are also operating reduced opening hours due to the Christmas holidays.

In Tier 4, only essential shops can stay open. Other shops can still open for click and collect and delivery purposes.

What shops can open in Tier 4?

Here’s the full list of shops that can open in Tier 4.

  • Garden centres and Christmas tree retailers
  • Building merchants and suppliers of building products and off-licences
  • Market stalls selling essential retail
  • Businesses providing repair services but only if they primarily offer repair services
  • Petrol stations
  • Automatic (but not manual) car washes
  • Vehicle repair and MOT services
  • Bicycle shops
  • Taxi and vehicle hire businesses
  • Banks and building societies
  • Post offices
  • Short-term loan providers and money transfer businesses
  • Funeral directors
  • Laundrettes and dry cleaners
  • Medical and dental services
  • Vets and pet shops
  • Animal rescue centres, boarding facilities, and animal groomers
  • Agricultural supplies shops
  • Mobility and disability support shops
  • Storage and distribution facilities
  • Car parks
  • Public toilets
  • Motorway service areas
  • Outdoor playgrounds
  • Outdoor gyms, pools, sports courts and facilities
  • Golf courses
  • Archery/driving/shooting ranges (outdoors)
  • Outdoor riding centres

Aldi

Aldi is open as normal in Tier 4 areas as it’s a supermarket.

It will be operating some reduced hours over the New Year period.

There may also be variations from branch to branch so you can check your nearest store times using the locator tool.

Asda

Asda is open as normal in Tier 4 areas as it’s a supermarket.

Shops were closed on Boxing Day and may be operating reduced hours over New Year’s, check the festive hours to avoid wasting a trip to your local branch.

B&M

B&M, which has over 600 shops across the UK, told The Sun it won’t be closing any stores during this lockdown.

You can find your nearest shop, including all the latest opening hours, by using the B&M store finder tool.

During the last lockdown, B&M temporarily closed 49 of its stores but these have since reopened.

Shoppers can’t order from the retailer online, and customers are being reminded to only visit stores for essential products.

B&Q

B&Q remains open in Tier 4 areas, as hardware stores have been confirmed as “essential” retailers.

Stores were closed on Boxing Day. It is open on New Years Eve and New Year’s Day but will have reduced hours.

Halfords

Halfords stores are currently open for business in Tier 4 areas.

Halfords has 400 shops and 350 garages in the UK – use its store finder tool to find your nearest shop.

Home Bargains

Home Bargains stores are open as normal – you can find your local branch by using the online shop finder tool.

It was closed on Boxing Day, check with your local shop to find out about opening hours.

Home Bargains currently has 500 shops in the UK.

Homebase

Homebase stores are open in Tier 4 areas.

Homebase has over 100 stores in the UK, use the online store finder tool to see where your nearest is and all the latest opening hours.

Iceland

Iceland is open as normal in Tier 4 areas but it may be operating reduced hours over New Year’s. 

It’s best to use Iceland’s store finder to find out exactly when your local store will be open over the holidays.

Lidl

Lidl is open as normal in Tier 4 areas but it may be operating reduced hours over New Year’s. 

There may also be variations between banches, so check your nearest store times using Lidl’s locator tool.

Morrisons

Lidl is open as normal in Tier 4 areas but it may be operating reduced hours over New Year’s.

Poundland

Poundland stores remain open as they sell items which are classed as essential.

You can find your nearest shop using the store locator tool.

Opening hours vary across stores so it’s worth checking with your local branch before you visit.

Poundstretcher

Poundstretcher’s stores are open as normal because the retailer sells cleaning and food products.

There are 400 stores across the UK and you can find your nearest one here including the latest opening hours.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s is open as usual but may operate some reduced hours over New Year’s.

Screwfix

Screwfix remains open as hardware stores are included as “essential” retailers.

Tesco

Tesco is open as normal but some stores may be operating with reduced hours over the New Year period.

Wilko

Wilko stores remain open as they also sell essential products.

Wickes

Wickes is also staying open, due to the retailer selling products for home repairs.
