What to do if you want to resit your A levels

[ad_1]

Failing to get the A levels you want is not the end of the world

While not getting the A levels you want might feel like the end of the world it’s always possible to resit them.

It can be hard to think about resitting an A level when many of your friends are heading off to university, but take heart in knowing you are not the only one. Besides, there are plenty of people taking gap years.

The first thing you need to do is talk to your college or school and see if they offer the option to resit there.

If you go back to school you will have to do a full year again in the classroom.

Not all schools allow past pupils to resit with them. but don’t worry you don’t have to sit them in your old school.

You can also resit your A levels in another exam centre, but you will need to provide them with your old candidate details.

The administrative cost of resitting an A level is around £85 per exam

There are independent colleges that allow you to resit your A levels in a specialist setting with small classes and one-to-one tuition, but these can cost in the region of £6,000 per A level.

That’s a hard price to swallow when the administrative cost of retaking an A level is around £85.

The cheapest option is usually to take them at your old college or exam centre.

You will have to wait until the following summer to retake A levels and as they are no longer modular you will have to take all of the exams in one go.

This means you will have to resit the whole A level, and will have two grades, one from your original A level and one from your retake.

Thankfully you will be able to submit old coursework, and can even request that coursework grades be carried over.

Once you have decided to resit your A levels you will have to officially decline any university places offered to you by September 20.

It is important to keep in mind that while most universities accept resits, your offers could be slightly higher.

On the upside you can use your decision to resit to your advantage when reapplying to universities, as it shows determination and independence.

That said, A levels can only be done once per year and you are only given one more shot at sitting them.

It is a good idea to have papers rechecked as well as to look at clearing options before you make your decision.
