Rules include wearing a face mask in stores, unless medically exempt, and sticking to social distancing rules.

Rivals Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Sainsbury’s have put in place similar measures too.

We explain all you need to know about M&S’ opening times under the third lockdown and whether you can still order food deliveries to your door.

When are M&S stores opening and closing?

M&S stores that sell food remain open as usual, including those in larger stores that also sell clothing and homeware.

M&S has more than 1,000 stores in the UK.

You can find your nearest store and check opening times on the “find a store” page on their website.

Opening hours vary between 6am and 9am and closing times vary from 8pm to 10pm on weekdays.

However, if you’re planning on grabbing a coffee at an M&S Cafe while you’re doing your shopping, then you might find it’s closed.

The majority of M&S’ Cafes are temporarily shut due to Covid restrictions, but some are open for takeaways only – you can see which ones are offering this on M&S’ website.

When is the best time to shop there?

Google has a tracker which allows you to see when the peak times are.

If you search for “M&S” or “Marks and Spencer” and then click on your nearest store, it will show a bar chart of when the store’s busiest times are.

Is there a limit on items?

M&S no longer has buying restrictions in place on any of its products.

Previously, the store rationed its hand sanitisers and antibacterial products.

It also used to have a limit of two items per person across all of its grocery division.

Can I order online?

Yes, you can order M&S food from online via Ocado.

The amount you’re charged for delivery depends on the day and time of your slot, and how much you’re spending.

If your order is less than £75, there’s a minimum charge of £2.99 and a maximum of £6.99. For standard orders of £75 or more, you may be offered free delivery.

M&S shoppers can also still order clothing and homeware products from its website.

But keep in mind delivery is charged at £3.50 for orders under £50 – anything above this amount is free – or you can also click and collect for no charge.

What coronavirus safety measures does M&S have in place?

On its website, M&S lists the following coronavirus safety measures:

  • Social distancing measures in stores
  • Face masks compulsory for all customers and staff, unless medically exempt
  • Staff supplied with PPE
  • Perspex screens at checkouts
  • Extra cleaning throughout stores
