Paul Pogba has told those closest to him that he now wants to stay at Manchester United and is prepared to sign a contract that will make him one of the best paid players in the Premier League.

The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, which he signed in 2016 following a £89m return to the club.

United are keen to keep Pogba and are desperate to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs on January 1st and United want to resolve his future before Christmas.

Pogba earns around £280,000-a-week at United and L’Equipe claim he’s told his family and friends that he’s now ready to pen a new long-term deal at the club.

The contract would see Pogba leapfrog David De Gea on to wages of around £400,000-a-week, which is only bettered by Cristiano Ronaldo in the Premier League.

Pogba was minded to leave the club last summer, with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain interested in his services.

However, the signings of Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have convinced Pogba that trophies are on the horizon at Old Trafford and he now wants to stay.

Pogba has also been given more freedom by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as shown by the seven assists he’s provided in his nine appearances so far this term.

The World Cup winner has split his time between central midfield and the left flank, but in both positions he’s given license to roam.
