What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is a two-day sales extravaganza, which is being held today and tomorrow – June 21 and 22 – this year.

It was originally launched in 2015 to celebrate the online retailer’s 20th birthday but has since evolved into a cult sale event a bit like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Prime members can snap up huge deals on Amazon’s own brand items or branded goods across a variety of departments, including tech, booze and clothing.

Some offers are available for the entire period of Amazon Prime Day, while “Lightning Deals” are only available for a limited time.

Our tips for finding the best deals this Amazon Prime Day

IT might be tempting to dive in and snap up LOADS of items, but here’s how you can guarantee you’re getting a good deal on Amazon.

PREPARE Research the items you want to buy and find out the cheapest price. Websites like PriceSpy, PriceHistory and CamelCamelCamel will give you historical data on prices so you can see how much you should pay. You can also set up price alerts to let you know when the cost drops.

CHECK CAREFULLY Use FakeSpot to check whether the item is genuine or not. The site scans the reviews to see if they’re “reliable” or not so you can decide whther you trust the seller.

TRIAL IT FIRST Sign up to the 30 day Amazon Prime trial to take advantage of the Lightning Deals and free delivery. But remember to cancel the subscription before the trial is up or you’ll be charged the full £79.

SHOP NOW TO SAVE TIME Put the items you want in your basket ahead of Black Friday so that when the deals drop on June 21, all you’ll have to do is pay.

How does Amazon Prime Day work?

You need to be a member of Amazon’s premier account to access the deals, and purchase the items from Amazon’s website.

There’s no need to enter a code, as the discounts are already applied to sale items as long as you’re signed in to your account.

How do I become an Amazon Prime member?

It’s easy to become an Amazon Prime member – in the UK, Amazon Prime membership costs either £7.99 a month or £79 a year.

At the moment it is running a 30-day free trial for full members but remember to cancel it before it ends or you’ll be charged the full amount. You can sign up here.

You can also get a heavily discounted student membership. There’s a six month free trial and then after that you’re charged £3.99 a month.

When does Amazon Prime Day end?

Amazon Prime Day actually lasts over two days, despite the name.

Deals are set to end on June 22 although Lightning Deals may finish sooner.

What is on sale for Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon has a raft of fantastic offers available during the sales bonanza, including huge savings on usually pricey gadgets.

The online retail giant is slashing the price of its own-brand electronic devices by around 40%, including this Ring home security system with £100 off.

The full line-up of deals hasn’t been announced yet, but in the past brands such as Philips, Toshiba, Nescafé, Lego, Nintendo, Shark, Samsung, Under Armour, Sony and Le Creuset have been discounted.
