What Frank Lampard has told Christian Pulisic to do if he wants more game time at Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has told Christian Pulisic to keep working if he wants to break back into the starting XI.

Pulisic started the season in Lampard’s team but has now slipped behind Mason Mount, Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the pecking order.

The Blues won at home for the first time in the Premier League this season with a 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, but the United States international remained on the bench.

When asked by NBC Sports what his manager had spoken to him about his lack of playing time, the 21-year-old said: “Not so much.

“He said to keep working.

“I have to improve myself in training and try to get back in the line up.”

Lampard spoke about his decision to leave Pulisic on the bench prior to the Brighton clash, and outlined the players age as a benefit.

He said: “I have four wingers to chose from now they are all fit.

“Pulisic we forget is 21 because of the price-tag.

“It is normal to have an adaptation period.

“He has shown some good moments this season and in pre-season but he must do it daily.

“He needs time to adapt but we support him on that. His time will come.”

Lampard has received huge praise for bringing stars such as Tammy Abraham and Mount into the first team since joining in the summer, which has been influenced by the ongoing transfer ban.

He said: ”A huge part of any manager’s job is to sit and work with the players.

“Younger or older, but with younger players you want to pass on more knowledge and help them.

“Sometimes it is being tough. I try to do that as much as possible.”
