Silva should certainly provide plenty of experience in a Chelsea back four that was notoriously leaky last season.

Over to the third game of the day now: West Brom vs Chelsea.

The Baggies make only one change after a 5-2 defeat against West Brom last time out, bringing in Conor Townsend for the suspended Kieran Gibbs.

Chelsea, meanwhile, hand a Premier League debut to Thiago Silva, who also takes the captain’s armband. Tammy Abraham earns a start after impressing in the Carabao Cup win over Barnsley in midweek, while Willy Caballero gets the nod in goal.

Ancelotti has really got the Toffees ticking now. Plenty has been said about the brilliance of Rodriguez and the goals of Calvert-Lewin, but this was, aside from a couple of nervy moments from set-pieces, an assured defensive performance.

That’s it! Everton make it three wins from three to start the season and move to the top of the Premier League table. Palace drop points for the first time this campaign, and they will probably feel slightly aggrieved, justifiably, after the first-half penalty that decided the game.

Calvert-Lewin wins a couple of free-kicks and Everton slow the game down again. They’ve managed the second half well.

Palace will have four added minutes to find an equaliser. It’s not looking likely at the moment.

Another change, this time for Everton: Tom Davies comes on for Richarlison.

Jairo Riedewald replaces McArthur for the final few minutes. The tempo of the game has slowed significantly, probaly because of the number of substitutions being made. Palace need to pick things up with just a few minutes left.

Rodriguez, impressive again today, makes way for Alex Iwobi.
