Wayne Lineker had a heavy night as he partied at his empty club in Ibiza following news it will soon be re-opening after Spain’s Balearic islands were given green list status for safe travel from the UK.

The Celebs Go Dating star, 58, was forced to close the doors of his celeb-loved party haunts during the height of the pandemic and the uncertainty of the traffic light system for foreign travel left him suffering many sleepless nights.

He set up a viewing party at his deserted O Beach Ibiza club so he and other staff members could watch the government’s announcement yesterday and there was cause for celebration.

The club mogul had faced an anxious wait for the update and took to Instagram to tell his followers what was going on.

He said: “I’ve had some big days in my time, but this is huge. It’s enormous. Come on! It’s got to be green.”

In another clip he told how he was so anxious he couldn’t even speak.

The Instagram Story showed Lineker sitting amid the club’s lush backdrop and work men could be heard in the background getting things ready for the eagerly anticipated launch.

He later shared shots of him spraying Champagne in celebration at the announcement before returning to add: “Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got the f****** green light!

Wayne later shared videos in which he sounded like he’d had a few drinks to celebrate the good news.

Party-goers will soon be back as Ibiza gets green list status and workers prep for reopening.

He continued: “And I’m steaming! But it doesn’t matter. If for one day or in my life I deserve to be steaming, it’s today.

“I’m buzzing. We will announce in the next few days when we are going to open but it will be very soon.”

He shared the video of the palm-tree lined party spot in the background and now it will be all hands on deck to get it set up for the influx of party-goers.

Emotional: ‘This is where my heart lies.”

He later told fans: “This is where my heart lies.”

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced in his three-weekly review of the traffic-light system, that Brits will be able to travel to much of the Caribbean, Ibiza and Mallorca, Madeira, and Malta without having to self-isolate when they get back from 4am on Wednesday 30 June.

The rare bit of good news – will be welcome relief for party-goers and the tourist industry has been desperately awaiting travellers return.
