Virgil Van Dijk has picked out Roberto Firmino as the greatest player he has played alongside ahead of his Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Firmino has become an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s attack in recent seasons but is generally the least-heralded of their attacking trio with both Mane and Salah more prolific in front of goal.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian is extremely well-regarded by his manager, teammates and Liverpool fans for his sheer work-rate and selfless style of play which frees up space for his colleagues.

The 27-year-old was not on the scoresheet as Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1 but he delivered another excellent display and before the game Van Dijk hailed his qualities.

When asked by talkSPORT who the best player he has played with is, Van Dijk replied: ‘I’m going to be a little bit biased and say one of my team-mates; I would say Roberto Firmino.’

Firmino was regarded as a No.10 when he joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2015 but he has been re-modelled as a False 9 in Klopp’s tried-and-tested 4-3-3 system.

Although he has scored fewer goals than the likes of Mane and Salah, Firmino still has an excellent record at Anfield, netting 67 times for Liverpool in 197 matches in all competitions.

Liverpool maintained their 100% start to the Premier League campaign by beating Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday with Joel Matip and Salah (2) scoring before Lucas Torreira netted a late consolation.

Firmino has made four appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring once and providing an assist.
