A VINTAGE Rolls-Royce that starred in an iconic 60s film is up for auction at an eye-watering price.

The 1966 film which featured the vehicle won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival – the highest prize for a director.

It is a 1965 Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupe from award-winning film ‘Blow Up’ is going under the hammer for £230,000.

The four-seater can be seen cruising through the streets of London in the psychological mystery film about a photographer who thinks he has captured a murder.

The film’s co-producer, Pierre Rouve, is understood to have been the first owner of the vehicle.

Disgraced British media personality and DJ, Jimmy Saville, is also said to have originally ordered the Rolls-Royce.

However, he is thought to never have driven it.

Its current owner, who has owned the car since 2007, is now looking to sell the iconic it.

So movie fans now have the chance to get their hands on this vintage ride, and even get behind the wheel like David Hemmings.

This motor can reach impressive top speeds of 115mph, with its 6.2-litre V8 engine and 246 horsepower.

Kitted out with a vibrant blue leather interior, the Silver Cloud III is also just one of 49 right hand drive cars bodied to Design No. 2045.

Still in excellent condition, the vehicle will feature on auction at Kelham Hall, Newark, Nottinghamshire on September 10, according to Luxury Auto News.

A H&H Classics spokesperson said: “Any Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Mulliner Park Ward Drophead Coupe is a special car but only chassis SHS349C can claim to have had such an important role in a 1960s’ cinematic masterpiece.”

They added:  “The order for chassis SHS349C was originally placed by the infamous disc jockey Jimmy Savile.

“However, it seems uncertain that he ever sat behind the wheel.”
