Vienna shooting UPDATES: One killed and several injured in Austrian capital amid reports of ‘suicide bombing’ in city

SEVERAL people in Vienna have been injured following exchanges of gunfire outside a synagogue in the Austrian capital, according to local reports.

A police officer was shot and seriously injured and one person was arrested, news agency APA said, citing the interior ministry.

The nation’s public broadcaster, ORF, cited witnesses saying several shots were fired shortly after 8pm (7pm GMT)

Police tweeted on Monday evening: “Shots fired in the Inner City district – there are persons injured – KEEP AWAY from all public places or public transport,” the police said on Twitter.

The editor of newspaper Falter said one person had been killed, also citing the Interior Ministry, which was not immediately available for comment.

A police spokesman said a large police deployment was under way in central Vienna.
