Vehicle salvage and online auction firm set to double Scottish capacity

Online vehicle auction company Copart UK has doubled its operations in Scotland to meet increasing demand.

It is creating a new 31-acre site in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, in addition to existing centres in Whitburn and Inverkeithing.

The new site is expected to increase operational coverage for both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Many of the UK’s major insurance companies use Copart UK to handle vehicles collected from their customers – which include fleets, motor traders and finance companies – for salvage and re-marketing via its online auctions.

The East Kilbride centre will provide annual storage capacity for more than 49,000 vehicles, in response to recent weather-related events.

Phil Briggs, director of operation centres, transport and engineering at Copart UK, said: “Alongside our existing 30-acre site in Whitburn, it offers the potential for Copart to handle around 100,000 cars per year across Scotland.”

Copart UK anticipates the centre in East Kilbride to be available for use by the end of 2021, and fully operational in 2022, subject to planning permissions.

Globally, Copart operates across 200 locations in 11 countries, including the United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Spain, Germany and Brazil – selling around three million vehicles a year.
