Vasiliy Lomachenko is confident of securing a rematch with Teofimo Lopez following his resounding victory over Masayoshi Nakatani.

The three-weight world champion dropped his opponent in the fifth round before sending him to the mat again in the ninth.

A clash of heads in the opening round left Lomachenko with a cut above his forehead but he maintained his devastating rhythm, scoring his first knockdown of the contest with a flurry of shots just before the bell.

There was no respite for Nakatani as the assault continued with the Ukrainian now hoping to secure a rematch with Lopez.

Lopez secured a huge victory over the 33-year-old last September, retraining his IBF title and adding the WBO and WBA belts to his collection.

The New Yorker was set to fight George Kambosos Jr this weekend only for a positive Covid test to derail those plans.

‘I’m happy because I won,’ Lomachenko said.

‘All the strategies that we developed with my team worked. I reached all my goals. I won and now I’m back on track.

‘Everybody saw how I won this fight, and everybody is waiting for the rematch with Lopez, so let’s make a rematch.”

‘He has a fight in the future with Kambosos.

‘But how about after, at the beginning of next year. December, January, February, I am waiting.

‘I’m happy about this if they are ready to give me a rematch after all I’ve done, after this fight. I am happy about this opportunity.’
