The Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, has said the institution has employed 221 of its best graduates in the past four years.
Ahaneku spoke at the university auditorium during the presentation of certificates and prizes to the 2019 best graduating students of the institution.
He said those employed were drawn from 107 departments of the institution.
He said it was in fulfiment of the promises he made on assumption of duties, expressing joy that he did not renege on it.
“The institution celebrates excellence in tandem with our motto. We have been able to harness and reward those who have excelled in their various disciplines in the last four years.
“We feel very excited when we celebrate those that distinguish themselves in their areas of specialties.
“They should not be allowed to roam the streets of the society in search of job when we have enough spaces to accommodate them,” he said.
Reminding the new graduates that the university remained one with a brand name, Ahaneku expressed confidence that they would defend their training wherever they find themselves.
“We cannot diminish hard work and excellence. Instead, we promote and celebrate it. Yours is to work hard, ours is to market you to the world.
“In this 21st century, our ambition is for our university not to take the back seat in tandem with the dreams of our founding fathers.
“We charge you to be good ambassadors as you explore and exploit opportunities which some of us missed. We’ve transferred the knowledge and skills and we’re sure you won’t disappoint us,” Ahaneka stressed.
