Arsenal boss Unai Emery says Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil and Nacho Monreal are all in with a chance of being named club captain next season.

Laurent Koscielny refused to travel on Arsenal’s US tour and is likely to be stripped off the captaincy should he remain at the club.

The 33-year-old remains intent on leaving the club but Emery is likely to name a new skipper in the unlikely event that Koscielny stays at the Emirates.

Emery rotated the armband last year between five captains but two of those departed this summer in Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech.

The Spaniard wants his captain to be a regular starter and he’s hinted Xhaka may get the nod, though Ozil and Monreal were also touted as options.

‘We spoke a little about that. Last year we had Laurent, Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey,’ said Emery after being asked about his policy of having five captains.

‘At the moment Koscielny has a contract with us but we’ll speak with the club and him about if he will continue or not. We have players with the capacity [to be captain], one is Granit, he was a captain in the dressing room.
