Unai Emery left facing sack after Arsenal defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt

Unai Emery suffered a humiliating defeat to leave him facing the sack.

Under-pressure Emery watched Arsenal blow a first half lead in their Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

It leaves Emery in serious danger with Arsenal fans voting with their feet by staying away from the Emirates with the 60,000 seater stadium half full despite the attendance being recorded as 49,419 because it includes season ticket sales.

Boos also rang out when Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead as two-goal Daichi Kamada helped the visitors stage a second half fight back after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given Arsenal a first half lead.

But they could now be on their way out of Europe as Arsenal needed a point to qualify and defeat means they face a make-or-break showdown at Standard Liege in a fortnight.

It will only turn up the heat on Emery who now looks a dead man walking with the club ready to pull the trigger with their season spiralling towards disaster after seven games without a win.

They face Norwich on Sunday, Brighton and then West Ham and Emery will be lucky if he survives that long as the fans have given up on him and the players produced another abject display to suggest they have lost faith as well.

Arsenal are already looking at potential replacements but club legend Freddie Ljungberg is the red-hot favourite to take temporary charge should they sack Emery.

The night was also marred by trouble outside the stadium because Eintracht Frankfurt fans are under a UEFA travel ban.

But that did not stop German fans from attempting to get into the ground and they had to be turned away by police and stewards amid ugly scenes.
