Unai Emery had reservations over Aaron Ramsey’s role at Arsenal, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has now confirmed he will join Juventus at the end of the season as a free agent and has signed a four-year contract reportedly worth £400,000 a week with the Italian champions.

Ramsey also had offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, while Arsenal also held talks over a possible extension.

But the Gunners withdrew their offer in September, even though Ramsey claims he was willing to sign a new deal with the club he has been with since 2008.

According to the BBC, Arsenal were not prepared to meet the Wales international’s salary demands.

But the report also claims that Emery ‘had reservations’ over where Ramsey could fit in his new system at Arsenal.

Ramsey is keen to play as an advanced midfielder who runs on to the ball in and around the penalty area, but the BBC claim that the midfielder’s desire ‘clashed with Emery’s vision’.

Since taking charge at Arsenal, Emery has used a variety of systems but the majority of his formations require two central midfielders who have less license to roam.

Ramsey has been used sparingly by Emery this season and has started just nine games in the Premier League so far.
