UFC star Jon Jones took aim at Nate Diaz over an apparent steroid jibe before deleting the tweet.

The light heavyweight champion was irked by a tweet from Diaz which did not include a name but appeared to be responding to Conor McGregor’s MMA GOAT list.

McGregor insisted Jones and Anderson Silva’s legacy were tainted due to their doping violations and the former clearly took Diaz’s comments as a swipe at him.

‘No one’s gonna remember your fights,’ Diaz posted with a syringe emoji, typically used to depict steroids.

Jones fired back at Diaz, saying: ‘Oh the dumb things we say when we’re stoned, stop Nate.’

Diaz has previously insisted everyone in MMA is on steroids and Jones decided to delete his tweet attacking his UFC rival.

Jones has served two doping bans in his UFC career and was involved in a third controversial incident in 2018 which did not result in a suspension, but did see his fight against Alexander Gustafsson moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when the defending champion was denied a licence in Nevada.

USADA determined Jones had not committed a further doping violation, but the American’s career continues to be marred by his indiscretions.

It is unclear when Jones will fight again having been arrested last April and turning down the UFC’s offer to move up to heavyweight to fight Francis Ngannou.

Jones explained the UFC refused to offer him a pay raise to take on what many consider as the hardest hitter in MMA.

Diaz, on the other hand, might be getting the itch to return to fighting after blasting McGregor for his GOAT list and responding to Jorge Masvidal’s call for a rematch.

Most of UFC’s biggest stars are on the sidelines during the coronavirus pandemic, with the MMA promotion holding events behind closed doors.
