Trump tells Biden to get well soon after rival slips while playing with dog

Donald Trump has told Joe Biden to “get well soon” after the President-elect fractured his foot while playing with one of his dogs.

The Democrat’s office initially said the ex-Senator didn’t appear to have suffered any broken bones, before a later scan showed the tumble caused a hairline fracture.

The incident happened on Saturday, with the 78-year-old Democrat visiting an orthopedist in Delaware on Sunday for x-rays and a CT scan “out of an abundance of caution”.

Biden, who served as Vice President to Barack Obama until 2016, was playing tug-of-war with his German Shepherd Major.

“Initial X-rays are reassuring that there is no obvious
fracture,” Biden’s personal physician Kevin O’Connor said in a
separate statement distributed by Biden’s office.

O’Connor said Biden would get another scan for more detailed
imaging.

He then said that second scan “confirmed hairline (small) fractures of President-elect Biden’s lateral and intermediate cuneiform bones, which are in the mid-foot”.

“It is anticipated that he will likely require a walking boot for several weeks,” O’Conner added.

The soon-to-be US leader could still be in the boot for his inauguration on January 20.

He was snapped by NBC News getting into a vehicle outside the doctor’s office last night, with Trump – who is still holding out hope he can overturn the election result, sharing the post and wishing his rival well.

The Bidens adopted Major in 2018, after welcoming their first dog, Champ, following the 2008 election.

An Instagram fan page for Biden’s dogs, @first_dogs_usa, also shared an “apology” from Major and an “official” statement, citing the fact he is “still a puppy & very high energy”.

Biden officials have said Major will become the first rescue dog to live in the White House.

After defeating Trump on November 3, Biden will be the oldest person ever to assume the office.

Trump – who will become the fourth President to be ousted after only one term – has been consistently unflattering towards Biden throughout the campaign, claiming he is both corrupt and too old to be President.

Trump is only three years younger.

A doctors report in December disclosed Biden takes statin to keep his cholesterol at healthy levels, but he was nonetheless described as “healthy, vigorous” and “fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency”.

His health is likely to be watched closely by allies and opponents alike.
