Tottenham 'keeping tabs on Sergio Ramos' ahead of potential free transfer

Tottenham are keeping tabs on Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos as his contract continues to wind down.

The Spanish defender has been a hugely consistent performer for more than a decade.

He worked with Jose Mourinho for three years when the Special One was in charge at the Bernabeu.

Ramos is toying with a new challenge as offers come in from Premier League outfits and PSG according to reports.

And the Evening Standard understands that Tottenham are in the market for a centre-half.

Mourinho is thought to want a dominant individual at the heart of his defence, one whom comes with plenty of experience, much like Thiago Silva at Chelsea.

Sergio Ramos could be available for nothing

Ramos is now 34 but continues to produce and has remained integral to Los Blancos, the club he joined in 2005.

He has won a host of honours since then including four Champions League titles.

The World Cup winners’ current boss Zinedine Zidane, whose own contract is winding down, is not worried about Ramos’ future however.

He said: “I have a contract until 2022. So I’m not going to ask for anything.

“I’m going to keep working. I’m happy to be at this great club. I’m lucky to say I’m at the best club in the world. I just hope that the players can stay and that we can keep working with them.

Jose Mourinho spent three years with the defender

“When a player wants to stay that means a lot. With Sergio Ramos, I see him staying for many years.

“He’s looking after himself well and I’m not surprised about what he’s achieving.”

Should Tottenham fail to sign the Madrid star they may turn their attention back to Milan Skriniar at Inter Milan.

The north Londoners have an impressive defensive record this term with only Man City conceding less goals.

Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier have been Mourinho’s preferred pairing but he is still considering his options.
