'Tories R a failure as weary public bewildered by confusing instructions'

The R rate of infections is now above one all over England, meaning the virus is spreading.

Birmingham is the latest city to see additional restrictions, while Liverpool has been added to the watchlist of places which could see a lockdown if cases continue to rise.

To keep infections under control requires a collective effort where we follow the guidance and abide by social-distancing rules.

The NHS Test and Trace system is still not functioning properly when we need it most. It is still taking too long for test results to come back and too long for contacts to be reached.

So it beggars belief that taxpayers are spending nearly £2million a year to subsidise their lordships’ bars and restaurants.

This expenditure is all the more insulting when figures show there are more than a million children in Britain who are not getting enough to eat.

While they have to turn to foodbanks for help, privileged peers are getting cut-price fine dining. Instead of pampering the prosperous we should be spending this money on those who need it most.
