Some of the UK’s biggest dealer groups have signed up to the new Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) scheme to help dealers look after customers buying electric cars.
Arnold Clark, Verty, Lookers, Hendy and JCT 600 have outlets on the electric vehicle dealer accreditation scheme which has been developed by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) and the Energy Saving Trust (EST).
Speaking at the launch in Westminster yesterday, Caffyns CEO Simon Caffyns said the scheme will help give customers added assurance when buying electric vehicles.
“I think having the badge over the door will give the customer added assurance that they know they are talking to experts,” he said.
“We are in a time of huge electric growth and many of our car suppliers believe that by 2025 a third of all the cars we will be selling will be electric.
“So we are obviously very keen on this on this EVA initiative. It is a time of rapid technological change and we feel that our customers need someone to guide them through how they go about selecting the right form of transport, whether that be an ICE engine or an electric one
Caffyns said the EVA process was “relatively straightforward” but dealers needed to prepare for it.
“Really it is about showing that we are physically ready, we have the appropriate electric vehicles, charge points and trained technicians and sales executives so the customer can be looked after.
“It also checks out expertise so we are able to explain the technology, demonstrate the vehicles in action and most importantly service and maintain those vehicles in a safe fashion,” he said.
