Tom Hollander has been praised as a ‘national treasure’ for his extremely honest rundown of what he gets up to on his Sundays.

The Us star shared his refreshing take in The Sunday Times’ A Life In The Day column, detailing the mundane activities he gets up to in one day, including some candid remarks about – ahem – self love.

After waking up in the wee small hours ‘because I need to pee’, Tom said: ‘I pee in the darkness using my phone screen to illuminate the target, then often take half a sleeping pill (antihistamine), turn on the World Service very quietly and try to go to sleep,’ either cuddling his girlfriend or clinging to a pillow.

Later on he debates whether to go for a bike ride if it’s sunny, or if it’s raining he might stay in and ‘masturbate and doze, or speculate on the extraordinary injustice of Philip Green’s knighthood, or look at that app that tells you which celebrity you most resemble (Tom Hardy)’.

Reacting on Twitter, readers described it as ‘an antidote to the tedious bulls**t from healthy living warriors’.

Another called it ‘probably the best A Life In The Day ever’ while one fan said it was ‘nothing short of pure genius’.

‘Today is the day Tom Hollander became a national treasure. Best Life in The Day ever,’ read a further comment.

Other reactions included ‘truly spectacular’, ‘delightful’ and ‘one of the funniest Sunday Times Magazine “life in the day” articles of all time.’

Meanwhile, some argued that the British actor, who has also appeared The Night Manager and Rev, deliberately went left-field for his article just to be funny – in which case, mission accomplished.

Other celebs to have featured in A Life In The Day include Scarlett Moffatt, Christopher Biggins, Jessie J, Twiggy and Brenda Blethyn.
