Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he’s unsure whether Mason Mount will recover in time to play in Wednesday’s Champions League group stage game against Juventus, adding that it’ll be a ‘matter of hours’ as to whether he makes it or not.

Mount, who missed Saturday’s defeat to Manchester City due to a ‘minor knock’ he sustained in last week’s Carabao Cup match against Aston Villa, has been an integral part of Tuchel’s plans since the German arrived at the club last season.

After some impressive performances for Chelsea over the last two seasons, Mount has also become a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad and even started the Euro 2020 final against Italy back in July.

Tuchel has confirmed that he still doesn’t know whether the England midfielder will be available to play against the Italian giants on Wednesday night.

‘I absolutely don’t know, we have to see. In the end it will be a matter of hours as to whether he makes it or not,’ he told Chelsea’s website.

Speaking after the defeat to Man City on Saturday, former Premier League defender Rio Ferdinand said he felt that Chelsea missed Mount’s energy and bite during the game.

‘This was a statement performance. It was a 1-0 beating today. Chelsea weren’t part of the game. City dominated in all areas,’ he told BT Sport.

‘It was really convincing and just what City needed. Chelsea weren’t up to speed today, the intensity wasn’t there. They were beaten by a better side on the day.

‘Chelsea missed Mason Mount today, the way he connects the team and his energy.

‘I think Tuchel will want him back as soon as possible.’
