The Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, also ordered that the 10 dogs, arrested alongside the defendants be taken to the state Veterinary Centre.

Adegboye adjourned hearing in the case till February 25.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, informed the court that “there is probable cause to order the remand of the 13 defendants in prison.”

The defendants, suspected to be Fulani men who claimed to have come from Kano State to hunt in the state are Abubakar Ali, Salisu Isah, Okasa Musa, Yunusa Sani, Abu Magaji, Adamu Sheuhu, Umar Sefiu, Sale Musa, Mustapha Usman, Musa Isah, Mutaka Wa and Usman Abubakar.

Okunade said that the defendants, who were arrested within Emure Ekiti magisterial district, were found with exhibits including weapons on Thursday, February 20.

According to him, 10 dogs and various charms were also found in the possession of the suspects.

The police prosecutor said the suspects were “reasonably suspected to have committed the offences of unlawful possession of firearms and conspiracy to kidnap.

“The offences are punishable under Section 3 of Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act, 2014 and Section 4 of the Ekiti State Kidnap and Terrorism Law 2015 Act,” he said.

Okunade pleaded for adjournment based on the need for further investigation and as well for the duplicate case file to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
