Thierry Henry believes Cristiano Ronaldo is the best striker in the Champions League, and believes the Manchester United star has to be given credit for what he has done over his stellar career so far.

The Portuguese icon has won an array of individual and team awards, including five Champions leagues and five Ballon d’Ors across spells at United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.

Despite United’s poor run of form in recent weeks, Ronaldo has scored three goals in three Premier League appearances since his return to Old Trafford in the summer.

Henry, who is Arsenal’s all-time goal-scorer, believes Ronaldo’s record speaks for itself after picking him as the best No.9 in European’s premier competition.

‘You have to give this guy a lot of credit, why? Because simply what he has done with the national team, what he’s doing right now for United,’ he told CBS Sports.

‘What he has been doing for Juve, Real Madrid and United before, it is second to none if we’re talking about a No.9, you have to give him his respect.’

The French icon named his former international teammate Karim Benzema as the second best striker in the Champions league, with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in third.

‘I think he [Benzema] is the most complete striker in the world, he can do everything at ease and has answered the call since Ronaldo left, he won the Champions League so many times and I think that’s good enough for number two,’ he added.

‘I think he’s [Lewandowksi] been doing it for a very long time, one of the best predators I have seen in the game but he won one Champions League. The guys that are ahead of him have won it multiple times.’
