These are the most Instagrammable picnic spots in the UK

Grab your gingham and best wicker basket, as National Picnic Week is here.

The weather may have taken a little turn but there are still sunny intervals to enjoy.

So if you’ve got your food and picnic accessories at the ready, the only thing left to decide on is location.

The good news is that the UK is brimming with brilliant picnic spots and new research from HelloFresh has uncovered some of the best in the country.

Numerous places in London make it into the top 10 and all of the top four locations are actually found in the South of England. However, areas in Newcastle and Derbyshire also appear in the rankings.

The meal box delivery company analysed social media posts to come up with this data, and they settled on these as the most Instagrammed picnic locations:

1. Brighton Beach

Enjoy sea views and a coastal breeze while you tuck into your sandwiches – just watch out for the seagulls, as they will try to pinch your snacks.

The beach can get quite busy, but if you go closer to the Marina, or Hove, those spots tend to be a bit quieter.

2. Little Venice, London

For those not clued-up, Little Venice refers to the district in West London around the junction of the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal, the Regent’s Canal and the entrance to Paddington Basin.

Rembrandt Gardens is the place to enjoy a picnic, with picturesque views of the canal.

3. Seven Sisters, East Sussex

Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs, found near Seaford in East Sussex, and they form part of the South Downs.

Simply plonk yourself down at the top of one of the cliffs and enjoy views far out to sea and along the coastline.

4. Hampstead Heath, London

Hampstead Heath boasts a plethora of brilliant picnic spots across its woodland and meadows.

Enjoy the city skyline on Parliament Hill or soak up the greenery outside Kenwood House – you’re spoilt for choice.

5. Tynemouth Beach, Newcastle

This Blue Flag award-winning beach offers a one-mile stretch of sand. After you’ve finished your picnic snacks, why not take a dip in the sea or play some beach volleyball?

6. Primrose Hill, London

One of the best places for views (Picture: Getty)

This grassy hill offers spectacular views across London and, being more than 60 meters above sea level, it’s ideal for a picturesque picnic.

Be sure to head up to the protected viewpoint, too, to take in the capital’s landmarks in all their glory.

7. Chatsworth House, Derbyshire

Chatsworth is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and is a prime picnic location with its 105-acre garden.

The estate even offers a pre-order picnic service, so all your goodies will be ready on arrival.

8. Lyndhurst, New Forest

Lyndhurst is a large village found in the New Forest National Park in Hampshire and it features some brilliant picnic areas, including one the town’s best-known landmarks – Bolton’s Bench. 

9. Tatton Park, Knutsford

Home to an old Tudor hall, a neo-classical mansion and 50 acres of landscaped gardens, Tatton Park has lots of offer visitors. Be sure to keep an eye out for local wildlife, too.

10. The Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye

The Fairy Pools are stunning rock pools of crystal clear spring water – fed by a series of waterfalls.

They make the perfect backdrop for a summer picnic, plus you can cool off in them on a hot day.
