Robert Taylor chooses his own portrait of photographer Rotimi Fani-Kayode (1987)
‘Tragically, Rotimi died suddenly in late 1989, just two years into our friendship. This picture of Rotimi has, unexpectedly, delightfully disrupted my world, yet again. I came across what I’d assumed was an irretrievably under-exposed old transparency from 1987; on a whim I pushed my new film-scanner’s exposure settings to the max, and suddenly there, staring back at me afresh, as if it was 1987, was Rotimi.’
