The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum looks really good in first footage

We’ve finally got our first glimpse at gameplay footage from the new Lord of the Rings game and it’s looking surprisingly impressive.

Originally one of the first games to be confirmed for next (now current) gen consoles, The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum was first announced in 2019 and yet it’s never been seen in action… until now.

More than that, it’s not really been clear what kind of game it is, as while developer Daedalic Entertainment has described it as an action adventure that’s not something they’re really known for, but rather point ‘n’ click adventures like Deponia.

As brief as it is though, it’s clear from the video below that the Gollum game is something considerably more high-tech, with some very impressive looking landscapes.

Of all the characters in The Lord Of The Rings, Gollum does still seem an odd choice of protagonist but with no sign of a new Middle-Earth game from the makers of Shadow Of Mordor this looks like an interesting replacement.

Apparently, it’s primarily a stealth-based game, with a lot of old school Tomb Raider style climbing. Although Gollum’s famous split personality will also be a gameplay feature that you have to contend with.

The game is not specifically based on the movies or the books though and takes place a little before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring.

To be precise, the plot involves Gollum’s escaping (or being unleashed?) from Barad-dûr, after he’s captured and tortured by Sauron.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was recently delayed but will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime next year.
