The Chasers certainly have big brains – but how about their hearts?
Viewers of The Chase have seen the quiz champions slowly reveal information about their personal lives over the years – and their have been some rollercoaster relationships.
While some of the geniuses are in settled relationships with their partners, it’s been an incredibly rocky road for the others.
One Chaser was cheated on, then embarked on an open relationship and has no split up from their other half.
While another got angry and complained about ‘lies’ being made about his relationship status.
Here’s a look at The Chaser’s love lives.
Mark managed to keep his personal life fairly secret for many years until it details of his marriage sensationally exploded into the public domain.
The Beast met his wife Katie, who is 27 years his junior, after finding an instant connection while speaking on Facebook.
The couple got married in 2014 but after their wedding day discovered that they are actually related.
They are in fact second cousins as Mark’s dad and Katie’s father are first cousins – though they had no idea about the family connection before they fell in love.
Opening up about the unusual discovery, Mark insisted: “It wasn’t something we were aware of at the time – it was one of those things that happened.”
The pair enjoyed several happy years of marriage and welcomed their son Lawrence, who is now four, but then things started to get messy.
Katie started having an affair with design engineer Scott Bate behind Mark’s back and eventually revealed she had been cheating.
Despite the utter heartbreak of discovering his wife was seeing another man, Mark agreed to have an open marriage in a bid to keep his family together.
Speaking to The Sun about the arrangement the pair had, Mark explained: “When Katie first came clean to me about her boyfriend, I’d had an inkling. But right from the start, my attitude was quite pragmatic – this was spilled milk, what could we do about the situation to make it OK?
“We had a family. We couldn’t just throw that away lightly. There were other considerations.”
However, their arrangement would not last as pressures started to build and the Covid-19 pandemic created a “perfect storm” which spelled the end of their marriage.
Katie confirmed that the 27-year-age gap between her and Mark became a factor in her seeking a romantic relationship with the younger Scott.
“Scott and I are together now, and Mark knows everything,” confirmed Katie, who said her new man provided a level of romanticism and emotionality that Mark was not giving.
Determined to remain a strong family unit, the pair will continue to co-parent their three-year-old son.
“There was never any deceit on Katie’s part but it’s got to the point now where I realise it is better for us to go our separate ways and remain friendly, “Mark told The Sun last year.
Anne has actually been pretty candid about her past relationships and sex life.
The Governess has all but ruled out settling down in the future and said said she won’t be diving into any relationships due to the fact she has Asperger’s syndrome.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday in 2019, Anne said that she has tried dating in the past – but thinks her condition would make it “unfair” on her partners and would rather enjoy life as a singleton.
“It took years of psychotherapy before I even considered dating. I lost weight, replaced my glasses with contact lenses and felt a lot more confident. But I find it really hard to hold down a relationship,” she said.
Opening up about her past, Anne says her longest relationship lasted several months – but said sex failed to match up to her expectations.
“The longest was with a man I met at the Mastermind Club. I’d fancied him for years and we were together for four months,” she said.
“And sex was always better in my head, I felt like I was somewhere else while it was happening… It made me realise I needed space both mentally and physically in life, and I can’t make it work,” she explained.
During The Chaser’s Road Trip, which aired on ITV earlier this year, Anne opened up about being single. and why her autism makes it difficult for her to have a relationship.
“One of the things that really goes along with autism, I really can’t hold down relationships. I’ve tried,” she explained.
“My longest relationship ever was four months and that only lasted that long because he lived in Brighton and I lived in Manchester.
“He was a lovely bloke but I’m just not good with the sort of amount of attention that people need.”
Paul Sinha married his partner Olly Levy back in December 2019 after popping the question the January before.
The Sinnerman had previously stated they were in an open relationship, stating one of the advantages of being gay was having “no traditional template for how you are meant to engage with your partner”.
Paul described the wedding as the ‘greatest day’ of his life and the celebrations had lots of personal touches, including lyrics to the Pet Shop Boys hit Love Comes Quickly being used as the first reading.
Comedian Paul then entertained his 75 guests with a self-written song and dance number at the reception.
“Halfway through the song, I was thinking, “I am having the f***ing time of my life,” said Paul. “My clan were meeting his clan, and everything was wonderful in the world.”
Paul was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 and has been supported by Olly.
“When we got engaged I don’t think he knew how traumatic the year was going to be,” Paul said.
“But we coped, and it’s better being married, there is a more solid bond, and we have needed it, because of what’s happened.”
Paul called his husband his “rock” and said marriage had solidified their bond.
The Bolton Braniac Jenny Ryan, who joined The Chase in 2015, has not revealed much about her dating life.
But there’s no doubt Jenny could woo a partner with her incredible singing voice, as she sang some incredible love ballads during her time on Celebrity X Factor in 2019.
It is not currently known whether Jenny is in a relationship with anyone at the current time.
Although she did previously mention a “boyfriend” on social media, but remained fiercely private about his identity.
Mentioning her significant other in 2016, Jenny wrote: “My boyfriend is shark phobic but dog-obsessed so I am showing him all #BarkWeek pics to help him get over his fear. Cheers x.”
But it’s not been established who this mystery man is and whether they are still together.
Shaun Wallace, who has a career as a barrister when he’s not beating contestants on the show, has kept his private life just that.
Last August he was fuming that a lie about his married life had been allowed to remain on Wikipedia.
The Dark Destroyer was annoyed that it was claimed he had been married to a woman named Matilda Bray since 1990 on the site, something which he insists is not true.
The Sun on Sunday claimed he had been sending strongly worded letters to Wikipedia to insist they stop claiming he is married to a woman named Matilda.
A source close to the ITV star told the publication: “There is no Matilda, never was.”
On the recent series of The Chaser’s Road Trip, it was revealed that Shaun loves walking round without many clothes on.
Fellow Chasers Mark Labbett moaned about Shaun constantly flashing his behind while they were forced to live alongside each other.
Shaun’s naked exploits are certainly something that any potential future partner would need to get used to.
Darragh Ennis is the new kid on the block.
The neuroscientist, who has been nicknamed The Menace on the show, joined the Chasers’ team at the end of last year.
But it wasn’t the first time he had been in the studio, as Darragh previously appeared as a contestant back in 2017.
“A couple of days after recording I got a phone call from one of the producers – which I originally thought was a joke, and then it turned out it was real – and they were asking me to come in for auditions so I just went in,” he revealed on This Morning.
“I spent a very long time – that was four years ago. So I spent a very long time doing auditions and trials and training before they trusted me on the show.”
Because he’s only just joined the show, not much is known about Darragh’s private life and whether he has a significant other.
