The Cabins debuted on ITV2 tonight as a cosy winter alternative to Love Island and it’s already won over viewers for the mere fact it features a same-sex couple.

Charlotte, 29, and Sarah, 26, are shacked up together in one of the snug cabins to see if they have a connection with each other by the end of 24 hours.

As the pair got to know each other’s dating histories, Sarah was stunned to find out that Charlotte had been in a relationship with a man for 11 years – and was even set to get married.

Charlotte explained: ‘I was with a guy for ages, 11 years on and off and then we split and I never told him I was gay, I’d been bi all my life.

‘We were supposed to get married and everything. It was a year away from the wedding, I’d been in a really bad car accident and I just thought I can’t live like this.’

When asked how many women she’d dated, Charlotte replied: ‘Fully? Three and then dated quite a few. Not like a serial dater.’

Meanwhile, Sarah revealed she’d never been in love and was under pressure from her mother to settle down but finds it ‘genuinely harder to find a girly lesbian’.

Viewers were loving the connection between the two and were more impressed that the series features a same-sex couple, with this representation lacking in primetime dating shows.

Reacting to the potential coupling, one viewer tweeted: ‘Not sold on #TheCabins just yet, but there’s a same-sex couple so it’s already topped Love Island.’

One agreed: ‘I do love that fact that there is same sex couples on the show. Well done.’

‘So refreshing to see a same sex couple on #TheCabins,’ one weighed in.

Another said: ‘Well done to @ITV2 and #TheCabins for allowing same-sex couples. Not something which should need to be congratulated on in 2021, but here we are.’

The Cabins airs weeknights at 9pm on ITV2.
