The best lip masks for when you need more than a balm

Anyone else slathering on lip balm all day every day?

As soon as the weather gets a slight chill in the air and winds become that bit stronger, skin is prone to dryness.

On lips, the skin is thinner and more delicate (which is why you shouldn’t pick at them) so they need extra nourishment to keep a chapped, tight and dried-out texture at bay.

It’s times like this a regular balm just won’t cut it. Sometimes you need something richer, like a mask designed for lips.

Though less common than a typical balm, more lip masks are popping up on the market that offer a heavy dose of hydration, day or night.

We recommend wearing these before bed to wake up to a soft pout.

Bite Beauty Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy

The American hit has made its way overseas (Picture: Boots)

Get it for £23 from Boots.

When Bite first launched in the UK we were disappointed to see its famous lip products weren’t in the initial line up, as they’re what the brand is so well known for.

Well, our thoughts were heard as now this product along with a matching scrub have been flown over.

Were they worth the wait? Our petal soft lips say yes.

Fresh Sugar Recovery Lip Mask Advanced Therapy

A thick mask to lock in moisture (Picture: Cult Beauty)

Get it for £21.50 from Cult Beauty.

The new launch is a welcome extension of Fresh’s already large lip line.

So rich in texture, we don’t recommend this for day use. But to sleep in, there’s nothing we’re loving quite so much.

Milk Melatonin Overnight Lip Mask

Wake up to pillowy lips (Picture: Cult Beauty)

Get it for £20 from Cult Beauty.

£20 might seem like a lot for a lip product, but a little of this goes a long way of this, so it’ll last a good while.

Almost medicinal in texture and tone, this feels at first like a dense balm – yet somehow it sinks into lips with ease.

There’s no scent either, so there’s nothing unwelcome about this as you drift off.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

The K-beauty classic (Picture: Cult Beauty)

Get it for £19 from Cult Beauty.

Perhaps the product to put lip masks on the market, Laneige’s mask is one of the best known K-beauty gems out there.

As well as hydrating, this works to gently sough away dead skin to reveal a softer layer underneath.

It does smell like sweet berries though, and there are other flavours to pick out.

Kiehl’s Buttermask for Lips

Nourishing and rich (Picture: Kiehl’s)

Get it for £19.75 from Kielh’s.

It’s in the name – it’s thick like butter.

But melt it in and lips feel cared for and soothed.

Barry M Lip Rehab

A budget buy that’s worth trying (Picture: Feel Unique)

Get it for £4.99 from Feel Unique.

This low cost option might be good way into lip masks if you’re unsure.

A little sticky, this sets like a protective layer on lips making it perfect for chilly nights and frosty walks.

Don’t be surprised if you can still feel it when you wake in the morning.

Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Lip Mask

For a quick hydration boost (Picture: Feel Unique)

Get it for £4.99 from Feel Unique.

Single use products aren’t our favourite due to their environmental impact, but this quick pick-me-up offers and instant hydration boost for times you’re in a hurry.
