Suspected cultists invade Rivers community, kill vigilante, son

Unknown gunmen have killed a vigilante, Amobi Oguzo, and his son, Prince, in Ibaa community, in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Amobi, who was a member of a disbanded local security outfit codenamed OSPAC, was allegedly shot dead by a gang suspected to be cultists, who also proceeded to kill his son on Wednesday night.

A source said the cultists stormed the community in a commando style and went for their targets.

Following the killing, the area was deserted, as many villagers fled for fear of being killed or injured.

In recent times, several members and leaders of OSPAC have been killed by gunmen.

The General Commander of OSPAC in the Emuoha LGA, Emeka Wori, who confirmed the latest incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent, wondered why the group was being hunted.

“You can see that in Ibaa community where we thought that crime had reduced, it has become a different thing right now.

“I am appealing to Nigerians, especially Emuoha LGA, because I don’t know if what is happening, it’s politicians that are aiding these boys or the community.

“Enough is enough. We cannot take this again. The music is no longer the same. My advice to my men is that they have to be very careful,” he stated.

A spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.
